SINGAM(2010) MOVIE REVIEW

What a great film? For long time, there was no film that did good business in Tamil cinema industry and now Singam is ready to break the records of Ayan for Sun Pictures itself. Hari has successfully made another best commercial entertainer.

Aaru and Velu were blockbusters at different standards and themes and this one Singam is completely contrast from those films and yet makes it known as a successful film.

The film is about Durai Singam (Surya), a honest cop in Nellore, who takes up the job mainly because of his father wanting him to do. His father runs a provision stores and even Durai Singam wants to do the same. But unfortunately, he takes it up and solves out civil cases on his own attempts without failing cases. Kavya (Anushka) is the daughter a great business (Nasser) and comes for vacation. After coming across his good nature, she falls for him and even he does.

Cut to Chennai, a very bad goon Mayil Vaaganam (Prakash Raj) is ruling the city threatening the victims by kidnapping their kids. Not so long, an unexpected case puts him across Singam and they get into big fight as the high voltage chase game begins right after the interval.

Surya has come out of his previously existing images of being a classical actor and does it all for the sake of B and C centre audiences. Anushka has more scenes in this film and she actually does a good job in this film. Prakash Raj overrules Surya at many situations and they have tougher situations together at many portions. The other actors: Radha Ravi, Nasser, Manorama, Yuvarani and the new girl Priya (sister of Anushka) does nice performance.

Kadhal Vandhale and En Idhayam are nice to hear and the background music is too good. Camera work by Priyan is nice and editing is speed.

There is nothing to worry about logics as Hari gets out for few such actions and you don’t care too much about it.

Enjoy this film with your family members and it is good watching it for the money you pay.

The members of the Theatre Owners’ Association held a general discussion on the further course of action on Vijay’s films at the Hotel Checkers, Little Mount, Saidapet. Speaking to the media persons, Paneerselvam, Secretary, Tamilnadu Theatre Owners Association and Tiruchi Shridhar, Officer Bearer, Tamilnadu Theatre Owners Association said that Vijay’s films have been failing miserably since his Aadhi days and the actor has made no efforts to compensate the losses incurred by the theatre owners and distributors. The latest addition in the long list of flops happens to be Sura. When the actor was approached for compensation, there was no reply, Tiruchi Shridhar averred.

The next course of action against Vijay will be taken up by the general body meeting of the association. There are reports that Vijay may be made to make good the losses by acting in a film or face a ban. In addition to this, the theatre owners may decide on buying a Vijay film henceforth only after the projection

Speaking at the event, Tiruchi Shridhar said that Mani Ratnam, Rajnikanth, Kamal Haasan and T Rajendar are the few people who will pay compensation should there be a loss.

AUSTRALIA INVITES A.R.RAHMAN

Music maestro A R Rahman has been invited by Australian High Commissioner to India Peter Varghese to work with Australian directors in a bid to strengthen ties between the two countries.

Speaking at the preview of the 2010 Australian Film Festival in Chennai on Monday, Varghese said Australia wanted to strengthen its bond with the Indian film industry and the film festival was a step in the direction.

“Maybe Baz Luhrmann (popular Australian director) and his good friend A R Rahman can come together and make a big movie soon,” Verghese said, extending an open invitation to the Mozart of Madras.

A screening of Baz Luhrmann's ‘Australia’ was held at the preview. The film festival will be conducted at the South Indian Film Chamber Theatre between May 26 and 31

One known not to suppress his bold opinions, Radha Ravi recently used the audio launch event of Neeyum Naanum to voice a few of them on how some actors are overpaid in the industry. “Only very few people raise the issue of exorbitant rates of our lead actors. It’s contradicting to say that the actors are overpaid all the while you back them and their movies.” he lashed out at the producers, directors and distributors who continue to support such stars. “Please do not book actors who demand high rates. They will fall in line if everyone cooperates. All we need is to be determined enough to save the industry,” he said.

He went on to say that independently Tamil movies have no respect and they are being turned away by the theatre owners. “Who are these people to decide about big and small movies,” he questioned.

SEVENTH SENSE -SURYA AND MURUGADOSS MULTILANGUAGE

The official announcement is finally out. The much expected union of Murugadoss and Suriya is set to become a reality. In a press meet held at the Green park Hotel in Chennai this evening, the details of the project were revealed and going by what was said this one will surely be one of the biggest and prestigious projects to come out of Kollywood in the near future. It will feature Shruthi Haasan alongside Suriya with Ravi K Chandran handling the camera. That A.R. Murugadoss and Suriya are a superhit combination needs no elaboration after the stupendous success they had with Ghajini. The past few months had been rife with speculations about the possibilities of Murugadoss once again directing Suriya. This will be Murugadoss’ first Tamil film after Ghajini; that is nearly a five year break during which he has created a great name for himself in Bollywood with Ghajini’s Hindi version. Coming to the details of the new project, it has been titled Ezhavadhu Arivu and it will be a multi-lingual simultaneously shot in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi with no changes in the lead cast. There are also plans to dub the movie in English and release it across the globe. The director confidently stated that this will be an extremely unique theme that will carry a very special element never before seen in Tamil cinema. He hinted that Ezhavadhu Arivu might deal with extrasensory perception and an ability to foresee the future, but nothing concrete was revealed. He also said that this film would give Suriya one of the best and most challenging roles that he has played in his career. Shruthi Haasan, in a brief speech said that she is honored and excited to be working with such a huge team on her Tamil acting debut. She has already made her screen debut in Hindi through a film titled Luck.
Speaking at the meet, Suriya said that he had been hugely impressed with the story when he first heard it and had immediately got the producer (Udayanidhi Stalin – Red Giant Movies) involved. He added that the final product would be of a kind that would impress even Hollywood film makers and will definitely make Tamil cinema proud.
Music for Ezhavadhu Arivu is being scored by the ‘Suriya constant’ Harris Jeyaraj. Obviously, lot would be expected from the music after the Suriya-Murugadoss-Harris delivered some chartbusters in Ghajini. Earlier, Murugadoss had said that Harris had already composed a song for the film which he felt would have an impact similar to the ‘Suttum vizhi chudare’ number. Everything has been cleared for the film to go to the floor and shooting will being in a few days from now with a Suriya-Shruthi Haasan combo.

ENDHIRAN SHOOT RESUMES

The shoot of Sun Pictures, Rajinikanth big budget sci-fi thriller Endhiran’s shoot has resumed in Chennai. The shoot is happening around Perungudi dumping yard in Chennai.



A source said: “It is mostly patchwork of some combination scenes between Rajini and Danny Denzongappa, who plays the villain in the film.” As of now it will be a five day shoot.

SASIKUMAR NEXT FILM IS PUDUMAI VIRUMBHU?

After making a colossal debut with pathbreaking Subramaniapuram, followed by yet another super hit Naadodigal (Sambo Siva Sambo in Telugu), director-actor-writer M. Sasikumar is all set to complete his next project.

“It’s been a long time since I faced the media. I was so busy with the shoot that I had no time to breathe,” Sasi said to a leading English daily. The star cast includes Vaibhav, Ananya, Samudrakani, Azhagappan and Tulasi of Mahanadhi fame. "In fact, everyone on the sets was so busy with their work that there was absolutely no free time. The film should be ready in two months," he added. There are reports that the film is tentatively titled Pudhumai Virumbi.
